A Princess
"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with
Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also
share in his glory." Romans 8:16-17 "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;" Philippians 2:10
Growing up I had several nicknames. Hollywood was probably the most renown of them all. I got it for wearing sunglasses while playing softball. My coach told me that I looked like "a Hollywood movie star standing out there" and it simply stuck. My grandmother always called me her little sassy bee. Now where she came up with that, I don't know, but that's what she called me. However, my favorite nickname of all was what my grandfather called me - his little princess.
I was, by far, a little princess. I was a tomboy at best. I liked playing in the dirt, fishing, hunting - anything he was into, so I was! I was his shadow, literally. I followed him everywhere and I worshiped the ground he walked on. In fact I thought he walked on water. Sadly, though, he was taken long before his time. Cancer robbed me of my mom's father. But for the five years I did know him, he left an impact on my life that's not easily washed away.
Last night a quote was read in our Life Group. Now, I don't remember exactly what the quote was. Normally I write stuff like this down, but since we were simply talking, I wasn't prepared! The quote referenced the king and his kingdom, comparing the concept to Jesus Christ. That really got me thinking. You hear this almost on a daily basis - that Jesus is God; Lord; King of Kings. We don't question it. It almost becomes a mantra we repeat.
A king rules as a sovereign monarch over a kingdom. Sovereign: having supreme authority or power. A kingdom defined is the territory, the state or people that is being ruled over by a king or queen. The king is sovereign, meaning he has supreme authority or power over the people that is his. His subjects answer his commands with submission. They don't ask questions; they don't contest his orders. The king's authority is not questioned.
Now begs the question: is Jesus really Lord in your life. Is He really king? I'm not a tomboy anymore by any means. About age 14-15, I started relishing in the fact that I was a princess because my Father was the King of Kings. My Father was the King and that made me a princess. My grandfather was right! But asking myself that question: Is Jesus really King in your life? Wow. Sadly, no. There are areas where I really need help in relinquishing that control As a princess, I'm not called to rule. I'm called to follow the orders of my Father, the King.
